Campaign #JobSearch – Action not Reaction

As the Campaign #JobSearch Series wraps up, it’s all about Action and not Reaction! At the end of the day, we can sit here and talk about all the traditional, non-traditional, creative, inventive and just plain “smart” ways of working with our resume to land the job we’ve always wanted. But this doesn’t physically land you the job.

Actions land jobs. Sitting around waiting for someone or something to come to you and then reacting won’t.

While Campaign #HireHoff didn’t make me Ms. Queen of Personal Branding, it did make me one less person in the job market. In a poll I read, it can currently take, on average, 4-7 months for someone to find a job in this economy. It took me 43 days. During that time I had several people contact me, and I am still receiving emails, comments, questions and follow ups often. I am currently the Online Community Manager at Sears Holdings Corporation for the Fitness & Sporting Goods Business and the FitStudio.

If you are in a place today of looking for a job, I hope I’ve helped spark some ideas or at the very least showed you that there are jobs out there waiting for you to SHOW why you deserve them! Take it for what it’s worth to you.

Good luck! Want to know more? Check out #MakeMeMarketable!

Campaign #JobSearch – Traditional has not Left

Before I wrap this all up, I want to make it very clear that just because I chose to do Campaign #HireHoff via distribution through the real-time web and various “social” platforms, does not mean I don’t still believe in the traditional resume + interview approach.

Traditional sites such as Monster.com provide more useful and relevant tools and information for the job seeker than ever before. Here are some to check out:

Even Monster has integrated the social. Don’t believe it? Start here – check out some tweets.

If you are confident with yourself, who you are and what you are looking to do, then starting with the traditional approach just might behoove you. Research positions. Get the additional knowledge you’ll need. Figure out the contact people for the position. Simultaneously, have your Campaign #JobSearch “campaign” all set up so you are armed and ready to use it when you are ready to apply.

I mentioned in the beginning of this series that my former life was as a recruiter. I was one of the only people, at the time, checking out candidates on various social networking sites. But that’s not how I initially found them. I used sites like Monster.com all the time, and furthermore, our company used the site to post job openings. Employers use is, and you still should as well! The trick is forming the perfect marriage out of the traditional and the “new.” Use them both to your advantage!
